About the Presentation

Effective Root Cause Analysis relies on the successful application of quality tools.  This half-day workshop will cover basic tools that individuals and teams can use to identify and confirm that a root cause or causes have been identified.  In addition, the tools will be placed in the context of a problem solving process so that participants can also see how the tools can be used together.

As a result of attending this workshop participants will be able to:

  • define basic quality tools that can be used to identify and confirm a root cause (or causes) have been identified,
  • describe where and how each of the tools can be used as part of a root cause analysis, and
  • use each tool for root cause identification.

The workshop will utilize lecture, discussion and a hands-on example to illustrate the use of each tool.  Tools covered in the workshop include: Run Chart, Control Chart, Check Sheet, Pareto Chart, Is / Is Not, Problem Definition, Cause and Effect Diagram, and 5 Whys.

Certificates of Completion: Issued on workshop completion for 0.4 ASQ RUs or 0.4 CEUs.

 

About the Instructor

Steve Czarniak works as a Project Manager with Boston Scientific with overall responsibility for managing their internal Process Improvement and Problem Solving Methodologies to drive value into the organization. Steve provides consulting and coaching support to improvement and problem solving project teams throughout operations, development and business functions.  Steve was instrumental in the development and deployment of Boston Scientific’s Value Improvement Process initiative and their Process Improvement and Problem Solving Training programs.  Steve has taught hundreds of engineers, technicians and managers Problem Solving and Process Improvement methodologies and tools.  Steve has an MS degree in Statistics from University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
