Hello and welcome to the Member Spotlight. My name is Jon Cornell and I am currently serving on the Section Executive Board as Secretary. I am proud to be affiliated with a great group of individuals who are dedicated to the quality profession and devoted to serving the MN Section of ASQ as we strive to enhance the skills of our members and the community.
For those of you that do not know me, let me tell you more about myself. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Management and professional certification as a Certified Quality Manager. I have been in the field of quality for 16 years working for a wide range of business sectors. I have held positions as Inspector, Quality Coordinator, Quality Manager, Operations Manager and Consultant. I have also served as a Minnesota Quality Award Evaluator for the MN Council for Quality.
I would like to take this opportunity to share with you a personal note. In Steven R. Covey’s book entitled “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, Mr. Covey discusses many traits that effective individuals possess. One concept discussed is that of “starting with the end in mind” and how this ties in to the development of a personal mission statement. After reading this it really made sense to me. Not only do companies have mission statements to set their direction, but so do effective people. I challenged myself to develop my own mission statement along with supporting core values. One of my core values is personal giving. I express this in many ways and expect nothing in return. However, I must say that the more I give, the more I receive. I guess that what Albert Einstein meant when he said “The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving.”
By getting involved in the community and in the MN Section, I have been fortunate to have so many opportunities opened to me. I challenge you to take a more active role in the community over the coming year. Get involved! You will be amazed at how rewarding it can be!
