You may remember me as last year’s Section Chair. Of all the activities that I took part in last year, one of the most enjoyable for me personally was working with the then-brand new Communications Committee which has the responsibility of managing our newsletter, The BenchmarQ, and our website. With the launch of a new website on July 1, 2006, the year started off with a lot of excitement. Then the committee launched a new look for The benchmarQ with the September 2006 issue. Yes, the first year of the Communication Committee’s existence was filled with change and excitement, with the goal of improved service to our users. The committee was ably chaired by Mavonne Prokop. I am proud of their accomplishments.
I enjoyed working with the group so much last year that I am now Vice Chair of Communications! As last year, we continue to make changes. The primary one is the launch of a newly-designed website planned for the Spring of 2008; we hope it will be even easier to navigate, bring you the latest quality news and events and have additional features. Some of you may have filled out a survey at the November program meeting to tell us what you want to see at a website. We have tried to incorporate many of your responses, including a new and improved calendar that we featured last year, a job posting as well as many more links to other professional organizations. Communication is the fabric that ties our membership together. Without accurate, complete and timely communications, we cannot improve as a Section or be a vital player in the professional development of our members or anyone involved in the science of quality. This is the guiding principle of the Communications Committee.
